I am writing to ask you to support and join as a cosponsor on H.R. 194, the Prescription Drug Affordability Act.

This bill deserves your support because it addresses two critical health freedom of choice issues. The bill would allow people over the age of 62 to purchase prescription drugs from Canada, and other foreign countries, via the Internet without FDA interference. Second, it would grant an individual tax credit of 80% for the direct cost of prescription drugs when not covered by private health insurance or Medicare.

When this Congress gets to the big issues of prescription drug reimportation and reforming antiquated FDA policies, these matters should be on the table as well. For far too long, the big pharmaceutical companies have had too much influence over the decisions of the FDA. Likewise, the historically documented bureaucratic incompetence of the agency has contributed to the ever-increasing cost of drugs. Both have been driven by the inability of the FDA to change itself internally and with regard to policy to meet the real needs of Americans.

I strongly urge you to support this legislation. I appreciate your consideration of my views on this important public health access issue.
