Response to NHF Press Release (Tough Times Ahead for Health Freedom in the U.S.)
November 26, 2008
For the handful of people that contacted the NHF about this recent press release, (Tough Times Ahead for Health Freedom in the U.S.), and others that may also need clarification on this subject, we felt a statement was necessary. One of the NHF's long-time members also suggested that her thoughts be added.
We at NHF can understand that you might be upset with what we have to say about the incoming Democratic-Part-controlled Congress. We aren't happy about having to say it either. But the facts are the facts - whether we like them or not. As we mentioned already in our press release, the NHF is strictly a non-partisan organization composed of Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Greens, and in general left-wingers and right-wingers of all types. What joins us together is our love of health freedom and of freedom of choice.
The fact of the matter is that - very unfortunately -all of the Democrats in control of the key chairmanships in both the House and the Senate have already demonstrated their personal and political antipathy for and hatred of dietary supplements and their preference for orthodox medicine that kills almost 1 million Americans per year.
We can understand that you might overlook their antipathy in your enthusiasm for universal healthcare. But, consider this: What kind of healthcare would we be getting? More pharmaceutical drugs pushed on the public. More conventional medicine. More conventional cancer treatments that kill more people than they cure. Is that the kind of medical system you want? Is that what you want for yourself and your family and your friends? Because, that is exactly what you are going to get.
If - on the other hand - you agree with us that individuals should not be coerced and forced into a one-size-fits-all medical system that provides almost nothing of what we want, then you would easily see that our goal of wanting free choice and health freedom is a far preferable desire and goal for everyone. There would be more health, not less.
Please keep an open mind. From what many of you have written, we can see that you are all compassionate and kind people who wish that no one be left behind in the healthcare world. That is admirable. But, we think your real goal is not that everyone simply receive some medical treatment, but that they actually receive real treatment that will leave them better and not just a mangled body and statistic caught up in a vast, uncaring bureaucracy.
If your goal is truly one of compassion and helping people, then you will agree with us that regardless of whether some politician is a Democrat or a Republican, he or she should do their utmost to ensure that all individuals have the opportunity to choose for themselves their treatment of choice - not just whatever narrow, failed treatments some pharmaceutical company or doctor monopoly has lobbied them to pass into law.
So, we urge you to think this matter through fully and remember that our goal here should not be to slap-dash some system together just so that everyone can feel good about themselves and go home thinking that they've done something.
No, our goal here is real health. How can we accomplish obtaining real health for everyone? As always, real health is not forced health. It's achieved through allowing everyone the freedom to choose for himself or herself.
Pro-choice advocates apply this to the single issue of pregnancy. We apply it to all body choices. We hope you will be as equally expansive as us.
