ALERT: "FOOD SAFETY "BILL FAST-TRACKED- POSSIBLY TODAY-TUESDAY
July 28, 2009

If you have not contacted your Congressional Representatives-TODAY is your last chance. Please act in opposing this Bill.

The Bill is scheduled with many other bills under the Suspension Rule, meaning it will probably be voted on Tuesday evening.

A motion to suspend the Rules requires a vote of two-thirds of the Members present and voting, or 287 Yea votes. No amendments are in order unless submitted with the bill by its manager, in this case Henry Waxman. Debate is limited to 40 minutes - 20 minutes controlled by a Member who supports the bill and 20 minutes by a Member in opposition.

All of the bills on the Suspension list are treated as one vote, needing 287 Yea votes. Following this, individual votes on the approved Suspension bills are stacked with shortened vote times, i.e., 5 minutes per bill. So, there will be a recorded vote if not Tuesday evening, then Wednesday PM.
