Follow-up Alert: "Fluoride and its Salts"- Public Comments this Friday 5/29 in Sacramento
By Gene Burke
May 27, 2009

On Friday May 29th in Sacramento occurs the first public meeting to discuss prioritization of 38 chemicals for possible addition to the Proposition 65 list of chemicals.

A seemingly re-vitalized California EPA science committee shall receive those comments. They seek science-based data and information to assist them with their ongoing scientific advisory process.

Named the Carcinogenicity Identification Committee (CIC), they are considering a list of 38 chemicals. Significantly, included in that list is: Fluoride and its salts.

With respect to Fluoride and its salts, we feel that a 'high priority' status should be given to the CIC's careful examination of all good data being submitted to them by respected resources- particularly the following (already submitted):

Sacramento Meeting Logistics:

For obvious reasons, we seek assistance with encouraging concerned citizens who live fairly close to Sacramento to please consider attending this meeting.

FAN's Chris Neurath (coming from NY) will be there to represent FAN and, if possible, also to help corral/coordinate activist attendees at this meeting.

Anyone who does attend is politely asked to check in with Chris at the Friday meeting prior to public comments.

Important. Chris tells us that those who attend & sign in might have the option to donate their (3-minutes?) to Chris or to others who plan to speak.

Anyone who feels they can attend Friday, please let Chris know asap at: cneurath@AmericanHealthStudies.org

Location:
Sierra Hearing Room
California Environmental Protection Agency
1001 I Street, Sacramento, CA

The Tentative agenda indicates Public Comments shall occur after 10 AM -- during the early part of Friday's 10-5 meeting.

Given the absence of main media headlines about this CIC investigative process re "Fluoride and its salts," we are cautioned about NOT under-estimating the importance and potential profound impact of this ongoing process.

Please feel free to distribute this message widely to seriously concerned citizens.

Important, Please Note: Correction:

Re SMSDW'S previous 5-24 email. Chris Neurath of FAN reports that the quoted FAN Bulletin 1047 was incorrect in its following statement.

"ONLY 4 of the 38 chemicals will be selected for review by CIC at this time."

Please simply ignore and dismiss that (above quoted) incorrect statement. It was a misunderstanding of information provided by the OEHHA, says Chris. There is no such '4-chemical selection' at this time. (Please excuse our not providing the lengthy explanation for that here.)
