H.R.2749 PASSED THE HOUSE YESTERDAY ON A SECOND VOTE

On July 30, 2009 another vote was taken on H.R.2749 the Food "Safety" Enhancement Act of 2009 after the provision had fallen short of the supermajority needed under a suspension of the rules the day before. The vote was held under a suspension of the rules to cut debate short and pass the bill, needing a two-thirds majority.
Sadly for NHF members, the Bill passed the House by a roll call vote of (283-142) under a closed rule and it is expected to come before the Senate this Fall.
The Federation will continue to stay on top of this legislation and alert you to any action needed in the future.
