AER Bill Introduced in
House
On Monday, September 25th, the House version of Senate bill S3546,
the Dietary Supplement and Nonprescription Drug Consumer Protection
Act, was introduced in Congress. HR 6168, otherwise called the
Adverse Event Reporting bill, is identical to SB 3546 which
currently is pending for action in the Senate. Both bills, under the
pretext of needing improved supplement safety, would repeal the
DSHEA law and regulate supplements like prescription or
over-the-counter drugs.
Sponsored by Congressman Chris Cannon (R-UT) and cosponsored by six
other Republican and two Democratic members of the House of
Representatives, the legislation has been referred to the Energy and
Commerce Committee. NHF members are encouraged to send an opposing
petition letter to their Congressional representatives.
