The National Health Federation has awarded its first
annual Turkey Award to the person who does the most harm
to the health and health freedoms of Americans. Upon
reading the American Dietetic Association (ADA)
announcement below, the NHF felt that it must voice its
outrage, in this case by bestowing upon Senator Dick
Durbin the first-ever National Health Federation Turkey
Award. It was a difficult choice between Mr. Durbin and
the other perennial anti-health-freedom turkey Rep. Henry Waxman, but the ADA's dietetic ignorance tipped the
balance.
Quoted
from the American Dietetic Association Government Affairs
Report:
"Senator Durbin Receives Leadership Award
The American Dietetic Association (ADA) has selected
Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) to receive their 2006 ADA
Public Policy Leadership Award. The Award is presented
annually to a member of Congress who has demonstrated
outstanding service for food, nutrition and health issues.
In conferring the Award, the ADA cited the Senator's
legislative support and accomplishments in championing the
removal of dietary supplements containing ephedra from the
marketplace, and efforts to require dietary supplement
makers to report adverse events that result from their
products to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
ADA leaders will present the Award to Durbin in
Washing-ton at their upcoming Public Policy Workshop. In
addition to this Award, according to the campaign
fundraising reports filed with the Federal Election
Commission (FEC), the ADA's Political Action Committee
(PAC) has contributed at least $20,000 dollars to the
Senator's last two political campaigns. This does not
include individual contributions from ADA members in
Illinois over these years."
Could the ADA be any more fawning?
