Oppose Senate Bill 1082

Dear Senator ____________;
As one of many millions of dietary-supplement consumers, I oppose Senate Bill 1082 (the Food and Drug Administration Revitalization Act), which purports to revitalize the FDA by, among other things, creating a so-called nonprofit Foundation to assess and act on drug, device, food, and food ingredient safety. Yet, this will just create yet another needless, expensive layer of Federal bureaucracy and one beholden ultimately to the FDA. It will not solve any of our current drug-approval problems of delay and costly expense for new drugs but will just exacerbate those problems.
At the same time, this legislation will hand the FDA the tools to harass functional foods and dietary supplements, tools that will not further drug safety in any way. To ensure that this does not come to pass, the terms “food” and “food ingredients” should be removed from this bill.
Importantly, I am in favor of the Dorgan amendment to S.1082, which amendment would allow me to buy my prescription medications at a fair price. It’s about time that we Americans can benefit from true competition in drug pricing.
Thank you for your consideration of my thoughts and concerns here, and I look forward to seeing you act on behalf of my interests in the Senate as soon as possible. I shall be watching the vote on this matter.
Sincerely yours,
