It is something that can be prevented, but has the potential to become deadly.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, nearly 1,200 people in the U.S. contract bacterial meningitis each year -- 15 percent die -- which is why the state is stepping in and urging you to protect your health.
Demand for the Bacterial Meningitis vaccine has caused several health departments across the state to run out.
"We have approximately 65 doses on hand today, but those are dropping steadily because we started with almost 200 doses," added Anderson.
Last February, bacterial meningitis claimed the life of 20-year-old A&M student Nicolis "Nico" Williams. Williams lived off campus and was not required to get the vaccine. But lawmakers say now, that's not the case. Senate Bill 1107 becomes effective January 1, 2012 -- requiring all new students, transfer students and returning students to provide proof of the vaccination. This law even includes A&M students taking one or two classes at Blinn.
The new law does NOT apply to the following groups of students:
•Student is 30 years of age or older by the first day of the semester
•Student is enrolled only in online courses or other distance education courses
•Dual enrolled student who does not attend class on campus
Newly admitted students at Texas A&M who have not provided documentation of vaccination will have an immunization deficiency hold placed on their account. The hold will be removed once the appropriate immunization documentation has been provided to Texas A&M. The immunization deficiency hold will prevent you from registering for classes, so it is imperative that you fulfill this requirement prior to or immediately upon your arrival at your New Student Conference.
The rising price of vaccines coupled with federal budget cuts, are calling for changes at the Brazos County Health Department.
"We have two messages, we do have the vaccine for college kids whether you have insurance or you do not have insurance through Jan 1, 2010; But starting Jan 1, 2010 if you have insurance, we ask that you do make it back to your primary care physician that you do" explained Anderson.
“I think it's good I think all of us need to protect ourselves from different diseases,” said high school student, Miranda Garrott.
While the cost of the vaccine depends on your insurance provider -- the cost is nothing compared to the potentially lethal outcome of not being protected.
According to the Texas A&M website:
If you arrive at your New Student Conference and have not yet fulfilled this requirement, vaccinations will be available at the Beutel Health Center on campus at a cost of $110. Payment by check or credit card for the vaccine can be made when the vaccination is administered, or it can be added to your fee statement. Students are highly encouraged to take care of this requirement prior to the New Student Conference, as the cost of the vaccination may be lower through your current health care provider.

Using the Federal Court System to Uncover the Criminal Conspiracy ...
Yes, you read that subtitle above correctly.
We the people of the United States formed a government "of the people, by the people, and for the people" a long time ago, and we fully intend that government to stay within our control.
There are those within our society who have every intent to abuse our systems for their own benefit. Often, history shows, those abusers work within that system, as employees, advisors, consultants, whatever.
That is not news, nor is it a new situation that we the people have to suddenly deal with. Our founding fathers (and mothers) understood the foibles of humanity and built into our political arena a system of checks and balances. That system is reflected at every level in our government; federal, state and local.
In the federal system, for instance, the founders divided our government into three distinct entities each watching the other two, insuring that none become despotic. Those divisions; the Executive, the Congress, and the Judicial, just by their design, perform that function.
More, there are redundant systems - meaning that there is usually more than one way to keep one of our created government units in line, performing the functions we intended for them in the way we intended. The Maryland Board of Physicians, for instance, has found out the hard way, recently, that those systems exist and can be readily activated to put a ring in their nose, so to speak, and lead them back onto the path of righteousness. Click here, and here, to read the two articles (so far) about this situation.
In the first four articles titled "The CDC has know all along how dangerous vaccines are - and has covered it up..." I laid out, for the readers, the story parts: (1) the Starting Point, (2) the Lawsuit Against the CDC, (3) What the Government Agencies Actually Knew, and (4) and What The "Vaccine Construction" Is and Does.
In this fifth article of this series I will explain where this is all going, what is really happening here - the use of the Judiciary branch of the US Government to rein in the activities of an out-of-control federal agency - the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) - a Division of the US Department of Health and Human Services.
And something more. Much more. It is time for criminal indictment.
This story, detailed by David Willman in the LA Times (and blogged by me 4 weeks ago) has now been re-reported (in great detail for television) by CNN. It certainly deserves plenty of scrutiny, especially after SIGA's stock rose 32% yesterday, supposedly due to board member Fran Townsend's denying company interference with the contract. DHHS (what a surprise!) even had the temerity to tell CNN that replacing the government's chief negotiator saved the taxpayer lots of money!
In case you forgot, the issues are these:
SIGA is selling the govt (for $433 million to 2.8 billion) a drug developed with government money to treat smallpox. No one knows if it works. SIGA's controlling shareholder is Ron Perelman, a billionaire Democratic donor. Contracting requirements were changed several times to ensure SIGA got the contract, and at a very high price.
Former administrations made sweetheart deals for 2 smallpox vaccines, for a total cost over a billion dollars, during the Clinton and Bush administrations. There is enough vaccine for every American in a stockpile. The vaccine works up to 4 days after an exposure. There is no real need for a drug too.
The Obama administration, it appears, did not want to miss out on the opportunity (which generating fear of bioterrorism has provided) to spend huge amounts of taxpayer funds on useless products. At least now a light is shining into the fetid swamp of bioterrorism procurements. SIGA's is only one of many questionable deals.
Due to many requests www.vaccineinjury.info is conducting a new survey on the state of health of vaccinated children. We want to compare the results of this survey to the results of our survey on thestate of health of unvaccinated children. If you have vaccinated children please go to the questionnaire for the state of health of vaccinated children.
Thanks very much for your support.
