The Need for Critical Thinking

By Katherine A. Carroll, Associate Editor, NTP

Michio Kaku, in Physics of the Future, said, “Science is a double-edged sword; it creates as many problems as it solves, but always on a higher level.” When I reviewed his lengthy book[1] in 2012, I noted, “How can we shape our minds to embrace the constant of change and have the discernment ready to sort the profitable and helpful from the controlling, damaging, and destructive? What is the future of health freedom? How much transparency is too much? If ever there was a need for a Constitution for the Race of Mankind, it is now.” That was three years ago. The time has indeed arrived; the future is now.

The health-freedom community must work quickly in the establishment of a safe structure where the flashflood of new technology can be employed without compromise or at least minimizing the latter.

What you don't know can hurt you. What if there were a monumental environmental threat that you didn’t even know was happening? What if you found out about this threat and then realized it was affecting your health and that of people you know and love? What if you discovered that this issue had the potential to destroy our crops and trees, the soil they are grown in, our entire water supply, and the biosphere as a whole and that if you didn’t act, we could never turn back? What if this environmental threat came into use in an insidious way, just as GMO foods have come into our food supply without our knowledge or consent? What if it appeared to be harmless, but it wasn’t? And what if it were so cleverly woven into our culture that we didn’t even see it anymore? What if it were so masterfully stigmatized and wrapped in controversy that if you thought it strange or concerning, you’d be scorned or ignored?

The National Health Federation has recently returned from the Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses in Bali, Indonesia, held over Thanksgiving week. But Christmas decorations were going up in nearly 90 degree heat, crinkling under high humidity. Santa Claus, reindeer pulling the sleigh, and flocked Christmas trees looked photo shopped into the tropical scene at the Codex meeting venue. NHF headed home, successfully giving billions around the World the gift of health this Christmas as we achieved the culmination of the work of 5 years in getting Vitamin C nutrient reference levels increased substantially. NHF President and General Counsel, Scott C. Tips’ news release will follow detailing the events of this crucial meeting. Thank you for your support, members and friends! Without NHF presence there, this gift would not be possible to ensure the health of others on our Planet.

From Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to Tampa in mid-November, the National Health Federation logged some significant freeway miles connecting with current NHF Advisory Board members and new NHF reps in the “sunny” State. I say that tongue-in-cheek as the torrential downpours in Miami revealed freeways with Niagara Falls cascading overhead; zero visibility. Luckily, I’m used to navigating monsoons being from Western Washington. Later, Florida redeemed its reputation the further north I drove and the Sun emerged as a formidable force. Did you know if you take 10,000 IU vitamin D3 a day for a month, you won’t burn? Well, I burned a slight bit…

Magnesium deficiency is often misdiagnosed because it does not show up in blood tests – only 1% of the body's magnesium is stored in the blood.

Most doctors and laboratories do not even include magnesium status in routine blood tests. Thus, most doctors do not know when their patients are deficient in magnesium, even though studies show that the majority of Americans are deficient in magnesium.

Consider Dr. Norman Shealy's statements, "Every known illness is associated with a magnesium deficiency" and that, "magnesium is the most critical mineral required for electrical stability of every cell in the body. A magnesium deficiency may be responsible for more diseases than any other nutrient." The truth he states exposes a gaping hole in modern medicine that explains a good deal about iatrogenic death and disease. Because magnesium deficiency is largely overlooked, millions of Americans suffer needlessly or are having their symptoms treated with expensive drugs when they could be cured with magnesium supplementation.

One has to recognize the signs of magnesium thirst or hunger on their own since allopathic medicine is lost in this regard. It is really something much more subtle then hunger or thirst but it is comparable. In a world though where doctors and patients alike do not even pay attention to thirst and important issues of hydration, it is not hopeful that we will find many recognizing and paying attention to magnesium thirst and hunger, which is a dramatic way of expressing the concept of magnesium deficiency.
